Prep for Hiring

  • During the summer, email the assistant director with a headshot and a short bio to post in about About Our Tutors/LCPs page so students can get to know you. Refer to our websites: Meet Our Subject Tutors and Meet Our LCPs for samples.

Unless you had a Stanford job over the summer, everyone (including returning tutors and LCPs) will need to complete an I-9 form.

  • Complete an I-9 form, but don't date it, and bring the appropriate documentation and identification with you to Stanford. This includes a passport, ID, etc. Read the I-9 form for detailed instructions. Print and fill out the top part of page 1 only (and don't date it).

  • U.S. citizens: Bring to Stanford your original passport, or a combination of a photo ID and Social Security Card, or a combination of a photo ID and birth certificate. Refer to the I-9 form for further instructions on acceptable forms of identification.

  • International students: CTL will need to see your original passport, visa, I-94 number and confirmation sheet, and accompanying documents depending on your visa (I-20 for F1 visa, I-797 for H1 visa, DS-2019 for J1 visa, etc.) Refer to the I-9 form for additional information.

  • If you don’t have a Social Security Number (SSN), you must apply for one. To get started, refer to the Bechtel International Center to learn about the process. As a part of the SSN application, CTL will provide the letter from the employer, if you need it, before end of August when the application process officially begins. Just let us know if you need one and we’ll prepare it for you.
